Question:

Cat suddenly peeing and pooing inside?

After the death of our other cat who was very close to this cat, she has suddenly started to poo and pee inside.

Her new-found-home is my room, and only ever leaves for food or to use the bathroom. However, lately, she'll leave "presents", such as urine, on my bed while I'm out, or asleep.

Could there be something wrong with her?

Or is this just a behavioural thing?

  2. Hello,

I personally think that this is a Behavioral thing because your cat has just died.

I have had this experience before With my old dog. When my other old dog died he would cry when i would go somewhere and also would p**p and pee everywhere. I couldn't stand seeing him so depressed so i got a  behaviorist and they gave me a good problem solver.

Maybe you could search the net for behaviorist's in your area. Its definitely also Separation Anxiety because you said she leaves the "Presents" when your either out or a sleep. The behaviorist will most likely come up with something To help.

    Hope i helped

  3. I think this probably is a behavioural thing, but by all means take to the vet to ensure there isn't a medical condition.

Cats grieve. She probably is upset by the loss of your other cat. Also, inappropriate toileting is a classic symptom of stress in cats. Sleeping a lot is also a sign of depression - my sister's cat was the same when they lost the other cat, it lasted a few months.

Grief can only be healed with time. You can help her feel more secure by getting a Feliway diffuser - I recommend these all the time for any situations of stress in cats because they are excellent. The diffuser contains a copy of cat facial pheromones, the one they use to mark their territory by rubbing their faces on things, which they only do when content. This could be useful to make your cat feel more secure.

  4. I could be the cat feels insecure or even frightened, it could also have separation anxiety due to the death of your other cat

  5. Generally when animals have such a transformation in behavior, they are attempting to communicate with us.  I am sure there exists some level of separation anxiety and this could be part of the message.  Also, there may have been an altercation with another cat outside resulting in her not wanting to venture outside.  If this is the case, it should pass shortly and as for her anxiety of missing her friend, only time and gentle loving care will help to remedy this broken heart.  I hope she passes through this phase and returns to her happy play cat self.  Good luck!
