Would cervical arthritis benefit from massage? I'm in massage therapy school and I have to write a case study and log in 10 hours of massage on someone and I want to use my Mom who has cervical arthritis...

Would it be okay? I know some forms of arthritis such as Rhemtoidal can not be massaged on...

  1. it may reduce her pain to some extent, but should be avoided if swelling persists.

Arthritis is due arise of a factor in blood, so how can massage  will help to cure it? Massage in inflammation causes aggravation of pain, so be careful.

  2. As long as her condition is in the sub-acute stage you may proceed wth massage.  That means if any sign of inflammation is present (redness, heat, swelling, and pain) it is best to wait 48-72 hours before massaging.

Good luck with your case study!
