What are the pre-takeoff check for a Cessna 150M. I remember checking instruments and "glass in tact". Do I need to check that the suction guage is working, seems quite important but I don't remember my intructor telling me to check it.

  1. You would not want to trust Yahoo!Answers for that kind of technical details.  Read the Cessna 150 Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH).  You should also find individual checklists in the airplane, usually in the pockets on the back of the seats, and usually laminated in clear plastic.

  2. See answers 1 and 2.

  3. Yes, the suction gauge should be part of your instrument check.  I'm sure your instructor mentioned that already.  Without the vacuum pump 'pulling' air through the gyros, your gyro instruments would become unreliable.

On a side note, if you ever see an older airplane with what looks like an air horn on the side, what you're looking at is a venturi tube that generates a vacuum effect and spins the gyros the same way the engine driven pump works in your 150.  Some even have one venturi on each side... fancy huh?

  4. See above.

If you are taking flight lessons, you should already be smarter than this.  There's a reason Cessna took the time to write all those things down.
