Question:

Chances of getting into UGA?

I've always wanted to go to UGA. I've wanted to go since I even knew what college even was. My current GPA is 3.6 and I'm going into my senior year of high school. I've taken only two AP classes so far, for they are the only two AP classes that have ever been offered. Next year, more AP classes are being offered and I'm taking them (AP Bio, AP Calc, AP Lang, AP Gov). I just took my SAT, so I'm kind of late on that, but I'm taking the next one in October and I'm going to study for it. I'm taking the ACT this coming weekend, and I think I may do well on it. Given that info and, perhaps, a decent SAT or ACT score, plus my performance this coming year, what do you think my odds of getting accepted into UGA are?

  1. You have a great chance of going to UGA...one of my cousins from Georgia goes there and she had a 3.4 and a 22 ACT....just apply early and write a good essay..if you have the HOPE scholarship you will be fine

  2. Your school will provide a transcript of what courses it has and when they were offered, so don't worry about not taking that many APs looking bad on your college apps. You seem like you have a pretty good chance of getting in...I'd work on doing some more extracurriculars maybe (perhaps starting your own since you said there werent many you liked and it would be a great way to show leadership.) You should have a good SAT or ACT score just to make yourself that much more appealing to colleges, although as a state university, UGA, you won't have to get a perfect score by any means to get in.

    Here are UGA's facts:

    Avg. SAT score: 1233

    Avg. GPA: 3.79

Your GPA is lower, but you're taking APs, so that will make up for it. Thats also only the middle 50%, so there are just as many kids below that GPA that get in as those above it. I'm assuming that 1233 is out of 1600, so on the new scale, that is roughtly a 1900. A little less actually, but you get the idea.

On a side note, I took all of the APs youre considering taking next year and theyre not that bad. AP Bio is a lot of reading and memorization, but its a good class to take. AP Calc is difficult if you dont have a good teacher, but otherwise its not that hard to understand the concepts. My AP Lang teacher was brilliant which probably helped a lot but the class isn't too challenging if you know how to read in depth. AP Gov...just use a review book to go over it. Hope everything goes well!
