Hi everyone, I'm a 13 y/o kid living in nyc and I just opened a bank account. Just wondering because I have about 20 dollars in saved up change (quarters, dimes etc) and I was wondering if I could put it in an atm envelope to deposit into my checking account. Any official bank employees advice would help.

  1. You cannot put change in an ATM envelope.  You will have to go to the bank and deposit the change in person.

  2. Even if the change would fit in the slot, the envelope is likely to break open when it DROPS into the machine.  Then you can't prove the change was in YOUR envelope.  DO NOT try this.

  3. No. The machine will not take it. The slot is very thin and if you try to put in change it will not go. You can take it inside or cash it in somewhere and deposit the bills.

  4. they would rather have you roll the them up in change rolls and give them to a teller but seeing you are 13 you might be able to get away with just handing the lose change to the teller if they are not to busy

change and a atm don't get along to good

  5. It won't take it.  There's a message when you're making a deposit through the ATM that you can only put bills or cheques in the envelope.

Either roll it and bring in to the teller to deposit, or roll and bring it to a store to trade it for a $20.  Most stores will thank you for it because they don't keep a lot of money in the till since most people pay with debit these days.  Then after a few people come in buying things that cost $3 and pay with a $20 their change disappears fast.
