Question:

Change in prescription?

My prescription has stayed the same for 7 years. I am 27. This year it has gotten stronger (-6.5 to -7.5). I see fine with my current prescription. Should I buy new glasses with the new prescription. I read that a stronger script could weaken the eyes.

  1. No, that is false. A stronger prescription won't make your eyes worse.

All the stronger prescription can do is help you see better if that is what you need.

  2. There is a mistake somewhere.  Your present Rx may be just right for you.  Go to another doctor.

  3. That is quite a bit of change. You are not diabetic are you? Assuming you are not, I would review your concerns about your rx with the doctor. I have seen people make that kind of a jump in prescription. And just because you feel you can see well in the old rx doesn't mean you would not see better with the new rx. I know this sounds strange but did you see an optometrist at one time and an opthamologist  at another. They write there prescriptions in a different format. For example:

    Opthamologist:

    -4.75 +1.00 177

    Optometrist:

    -3.75-1.00 87

These are the EXACT same rx but written in different formats. I am not sure this applies to your situation, but it's a thought! Good luck!
