Hi,

I booked an international ticket on Lufthansa through an travel agent. The ticket was issued on my married name(last name).

But unfortunately the passport has my maiden name as the last name. I do have all supporting documents with my married name, like my green card, marriage license, also have visa in my passport with the mention of my spouse's full name. When i called my travel agent abt changing my last name on the ticket to the maiden name , they tell me they have to reissue new ticket and i have to pay $400+difference in fare. So i called lufthansa, tehy tell me that the agent can contact their consolidator and change the name on the ticket.

Can anyone please advice me, if it's alright to travel with with maiden name on passport, and married name on ticket with all supporting documents, or what is the best alternative I have.

thanks

  1. Your passport and ticket names must match, or you cannot fly.  The usual process is to issue a new ticket.

Perhaps you should put your agent in touch with Lufthansa, if they seemed to say that a new ticket would not have to be issued.

  2. I don't know how it works with Lufthansa, but with American Airlines you just have to send a copy of your marriage license and new passport (if you have one) and they'll change the name for you.

I would try contacting them again and hoping someone else will answer.

I used to work in a travel agency and if someone wanted to change a name because another person is travelling then we make them pay for it. If it's due to a changed last name then we would just call the airline and have it changed for you, but you have to show legal documents stating that you have in fact gotten married.

  3. you have to contact the airline
