luckily advent use pretty common components, check on eBay best place to get these kind of things at good prices

Laptops are usually pretty difficult to dismantle, especially the first time. Then you'll have to find a matching unit to replace it.

Another solution is to buy an external DVD writer. Might even be cheaper.
