Chappel on an Island in France

Question

In the spring i went to France and i went to this chappel thing kinda like on an island it was like a militarry place that was pretty much impossible to get into and there was like quicksand for miles, the only way u could get to the island was at low tide when there was a road leading to it any idea of the island or Chappel?

It's called Mont saint Michel.

It's one of the top-3 most seen places of france.

The Abbey of Mont St Michel - but it's hardly a military place, and very easy to get into, providing you follow the causeway.  What made you think it was military?
