  1. I no i ahv herd about his books and stuffa lot 2 and ofcorse he will sound wordy the books r really old rite? they r classics. i am thinking about reading gr8 expectations....and jules verne. Is he really an author or was the guy in btf III kidding u no the doc guy

  2. I only read his Oliver Twist. he is not my favorite author but it was not too too bad :)

  3. Good books to read by Dickens are:

    1.  A Chrismas Carol

    2.  A Tale of Two Cities

    3.  Oliver Twist

    4.  David Copperfield

    5.  Great Expectations

And yes, his books are wordy but worth reading if you can just get through them.  My two favorites are A Christmas Carol (you've probably seen a movie version of this) and Oliver Twist.  Hope you enjoy reading them.  Most of his books are considered classics.

  4. They are heavy, but I don't really mind heavy. I do find most of Dickens' works to be boring, however. The Old Curiosity Shop was the only book of his I ever really enjoyed.

  5. ...1.  A Tale of Two Cities

    ...2.  Oliver Twist

    ...3.  David Copperfield

...Boy, did I give you the dickens!

  6. I think that Dickens work is worthwhile although I can see how his style would be challenging for a younger reader. Nicholas Nickleby is fun to read and I've always enjoyed Little Dorrit. both are stories with young protagonists.

  7. They aren't as hard as they seem. I first started to read a Dickens book when I was 9  or 10 I think and I wasn't able to get through it but a few years later I was able to read the whole thing. I think I was 11 or 12 when I read it all the way through so it shouldn't be that hard if you're 12 or older.

  8. i really didn't like great expectations, at all. and that wasn't even just my first impression because i had to write an essay on it which made me go through the book about a hundred times. and it just made me dislike it more. but oliver twist was much better because he's just so funny and silly and pathetic that you cheer whenever something good happens. and dickens is SO wordy; a paragraph can take up the space of a whole page. but good luck with whatever book you choose.

  9. the prince and the pauper is really good. but a tale of two cities, is the best!

"its a far far thing that ive ever done, i could have but could never be" aargh, that hurts. thats from a tale of two cities.

  10. The problem with Dickens is that his plots are excellent, but his writing isn't very concise. For most of his stories, he was paid per word, so he tended to write things in as many words as he could. It isn't that it is hard to read, for the language is relatively simple, but that it is not as rapidly paced as most young people today want.
