Cheap Fares to Ireland by ferry??

Question

Hey, we need help finging cheap fares by ferry over to Ireland. The cheapest fare we found was 300 pounds. Can anyone help us out? Flying is outof the question because we have to bring our car.

Been there / Done that...

It can be cheaper to fly and drive  but if you really need your car etc, the best option will depend on where you are.

Be careful about the standard fares as these are rarely what people pay.

Look for unpopular sailing times, as these can be much cheaper   (i.e.  02:00)

If you can go straight to Dublin consider the price as well as the sailing time.   The fast ferry  (HSS) does the crossing very quickly but is a little more expensive.

300 return is quite a good price based on experience.

the cairnryan & troon to larne routes are generally cheaper then going through dublin: see www.poferries.co.uk  Larne is in Antrim not far from Belfast and about 3hours drive from dublin. Site: www.portoflarne.co.uk

or there is also belfast to stranraer -  see www.stenaline.co.uk, this is usually a lot cheaper than dublin too.

I suggest you go to google.maps.uk and have a look at the distances from where you are to holyhead and stranraer and see if it's worth it though as the additional drive north might be a waste of time.

Also booking ahead with irish ferries can help but it needs to be months in advance, use the booking facility on their website and it'll give the cheapest options- as mentioned different times of day are cheaper than others and it will give you all the available sailings on that day. Weekdays are also cheaper than weekends.
