  1. There is no such thing as a "cheap" boarding school.

a majority of the good boarding schools are in the upper $20,000 , $30,000 or even in the $40,000 range. Mine is $36,000.

AND that's only admission. Then you have food (about $600 more) then books (add another $1,000) an activity fee (varies, usually about $500) and some have an allowance (varies, $600)

Luckily, many do offer partial scholarships. Rarely are full scholarships offered. You can apply for financial aid, but it's very hard to get a large quantity. My mom knows a woman with 4 kids, she and her husband didn't have extremely high paying jobs and one of their kids wanted to go to boarding school and they couldn't get a l**k of financial aid.

So I'd try looking at www.boardingschoolreview.com for schools in your area, check them and their scholarship information out and then set up an interview.

    best of luck!

  2. Beginning your boarding school search by looking for "cheap" boarding schools is a bad start. You should be looking for good schools with good financial aid packages. If the school's tuition fees are cheap, the school is probably cheap too. Also, the point of boarding school is not to live "the most like an hour and a half away". I don't know how anybody would gain independence living that close to home, it completely detracts from the experiences you would normally go through at a boarding school further away from home. By placing limitations on your boarding school choices you are also putting limitations on yourself. But that's just my opinion, in the end of course, it's up to you. The best boarding school in New Jersey is Lawrenceville (Tuition: $42,350) near Princeton. Financial aid info for Lawrenceville:

The more established boarding schools almost always offer the best financial aid. Here's a list of the other more well-known boarding schools in Jersey: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_boa...

Qualifying for financial aid means that you must have near perfect grades and keep them that way while you're at the school. This is true for most boarding schools, established or not. If you don't know the website already, the best resource for searching everything about boarding schools is Boarding School Review. http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/

    Best of luck.
