Cheap or affordable hotels in nyc?

Please someone help me. I need to know how to look for some cheap affordable hotels in any borough of nyc. queens brooklyn or the bronx, etc. I know manhattan will be pretty high! im not trying2break the bank. thnks

Hotel 31.  Look it up on hotels.com.  We stayed ther a few years ago.  It was great.  An old eclectic building and only a few blocks form all the attractions.  The prices were very reasonable as well.  We could see the Empire State Bldg from the window of our room.  There are shared bathrooms but they really clean.
