Cheap trains in France?

i'm coming to paris cdg airport from where i should go to lyon. question is where can i find cheap trains that i don't have to make reservations through internet?

i know about tgv trains, but i would really like to take cheaper solution, even though it's slower!

  1. The French national rail website is http://www.voyages-sncf.com  Search for trains on the left hand side of home page. If you seach from Paris to Lyon it should list regional trains - if there are any.  The TGV is the direct route from Paris to Lyon so you might have to use that.  And to travel on the TGV reservations are required.

    Web prices depend on when you're travelling.  If you're not going for a couple of months you'll find some good specials on this website and can book and pay online, and print out your ticket.


  2. France has an excellent train system, and it's a national system.

    Look at this web site below, but click on the UK flag at the top first to get the English version.  You can run trip planners, get prices, and even info on buses.
