Cheapest airfares?

I want to go on a 4 day/3 night trip with my mom from Chicago to Los angeles. I've been searching all over the web for cheap airfare tickets and I need some that is in our budget. I know that there are tickets for like $250 per person but I don't know where to look...can some one help me ?????
