  1. ......surf the net for the best deals!

  2. The fall sales that start the ski season have the best value. Cheap snow gear is not worth buying.  Some top quality used equipment is sold by instructors at the end of every season. Inspect it carefully, it is used. Depending upon what you are doing, you may have professional discounts for your own use.  See the rep for the equipment that you want.

  3. If you're near Portland, Oregon, check out The Next Adventure. Great gear, people and prices. And the ship, so here's their link:  http://www.nextadventure.net/

    Have fun!

  4. Sierra Trading Post.  Check their website stat.  It's their Memorial Day sale & I had to outfit my boyfriend, from Florida to go skiing w/ me in Argentina last year.  We got all of his gear from long underwear & socks, to all outerwear for all types of weather & his actual equipment for like just over a grand during last year's Memorial Day sale.  If retail was paid, it would've cost around 9K.  (Don't forget to Google the coupon codes before checkout-those helped a lot, too)

  5. You know, I have had trouble doing this for the past couple of years. Then I found out about Google Shopping, a service which compares the prices of online items on one page.l It is an awesome bargain-hunter's tool. I have also bought 2 paris of skis using it, so check it out!

    Hope this Helps.

  6. Clothing is always best bought late in the season when the ski shops are trying to move out the winter stock before the tourists go away. Places like d**k's, EMS, and REI usually start marking down the winter stuff in late January. However, some things just never get marked down because they don't change much from year to year and some are considered 4-season things (ie. The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket $165, 365 days a year unlesss it is a color that is getting axed from the TNF line.)

Pre-Season ski swaps are usuallya good place to get skis and boots. Most of the swaps I've been to seem to have a lot of racing skis from the previous year. It's usually good stuff that is no longer needed by the race teams. Good, slightly used all-mountain and telemark gear is hard to find at ski swaps and freestyle stuff that isn't abused-to-all-h**l is also hard to find.

Closeout stores sometimes have great stuff available in the summer and early fall. This past year TJ Maxx had some stuff from The North Face, Helly Hansen, and Marmot. Sierra Trading Post buys a lot of Canadian and European brands at a big discount and sells them in the USA. They also get closeouts on American brands as well as 2nds and blemished goods, all of which are usually in great condition.
