Check Cashing...Help?!?

I will be receiving money from a company I freelanced in via check. and I always seem to be in need of immediate cash. If I deposit this check, it can take up to a week or so to clear and I can't wait that long.

I was wondering if there is any way to cash a check without paying exorbitant fees at a Check Cashing place. And if I can do this at a bank (and which bank?!)...is there a charge?

Many places offer check cashing for 1-2%. Not sure how large your check is going to be.... but let's just say it's $1,000 USD, if that's the case they'll charge you anywhere from $10-20 which I would not consider to be 'exorbitant'

Normally, when you deposit a check, a portion of it is available immediately.  Did you know that?  Don't take my word, next time you deposit a check, ask how much is available immediately.  Then that will give you some immediate cash.
