i wrote it in 96 and have always liked it. it's kind of hard core depresso, but what do ya'll think. chords and layout are at the botom of the lyrics. thank you!
Livin' a Lie
i wrote this song in kansas city, kansas. i was up there doing a construction job and decided to take my paycheck one night over to the gambling boats on the missouri side of K.C. well i woke up the next morning in a strip center parking lot BROKE, lost, and near death from alcohol, (i.e. hungover), and composed this little number....it has to do with when somebody asks the simplest of questions, like, "how are you doing?" and we seldom tell the truth. we may be, as i was this day, blowing up inside but we say, "fine", and that's a lie.....it's also intended to be open and honest and point to vulnerabilities some say are best left not exposed.... and finally, lets face it there is another side to the ramblin'-gamblin' life style....living a lie.
Living a Lie
country. played with a bounce.
verse
nobody knocks on my door, i guess im just a cheap w***e
slaving away to the booze drugs and the cigarettes
staying in this cheap motel, it might as well be motel h**l
i know i'll die and so will you, i just prey you dont know what i do
chorus
'cause i'm living a lie, waiting to die
can't tell wrong from right
living a lie, it's no way at all
living a lie, yeah, i'm living a lie
forgive me for what i do
bridge
'cause i'm a gambler, always finding a way to play
and i'm a rambler, always have somewhere to go
yeah i'm a gambler, every time i play i pay
and i'm a rambler, a rambler who has lost his way back home
verse
now i have no doubt, there's no way out
of such a viscious circle
like a round a-bout goin' round and round and goin' nowhere
if you dont understand what i'm talkin' about
listen up and i'll shout it out....
i know i'll die but before i do, i just prey that i know what is true
chorus
solo
end!
