Chemestry help please!!

Question

I missed out on a lesson in science class and the teacher says that he would give me a detention if i didn't do these questsions please help!!! I couldn't find any of the answers in teh text book!! and Please explain

1. Will copper react with Lead (II) oxide? Explain why

2. Will iron react with lead? If yes, write a balanced equation for the reaction.

3. What would you see when zinc is added to copper(II) sulphate solution?(zinc sulphate is colourless)

4. Explain how the Thermit process works.

5. Tin doesn not react with iron(II) oxide. But it reduces lead(II) oxide to lead. Arrange tin, iron and lead in the order of decreading reactivity.

please help and please explian!!!

1 - no because lead is more reactive than copper so keeps the oxide.

2 - yes depending on Fe^2+ or Fe ^3+

3 - Blue to colourless solution as zinc sulphate is formed because zinc is more reactive than copper.

If a metal is more reactive then displacement will take place.

1. No. Copper metal is below lead in the activity series, which means that copper metal cannot replace lead ions in solution.  But of course there are no lead ions from lead (II) oxide, since it is extremely insoluble in water.

2. Iron metal is above lead in the activity series and therefore iron metal will replace lead ions in solution.

Fe(s) + Pb2+ --> Fe2+ + Pb(s)

as in

Fe(s) + Pb(NO3)2(aq) --> Fe(NO3)2(aq) + Pb(s)

3. When zinc is added to copper (II) sulfate the zinc replaces the copper in solution since zinc is above Cu in the activity series.  The copper plates out on the zinc to make the zinc look like it is "growing moss".  The zinc gradually disappears to form Zn2+ ions in solution.  The blue color disappears because it came from the hydrated copper ions in solution.  As the copper comes out of solution as copper metal the color goes too.

Zn(s) + Cu2+ --> Cu(s) + Zn2+

4.  Thermite reaction is a particularly exothermic redox reaction of aluminum and iron (III) oxide.

5. If tin won't replace Fe, but will react with Pb, then Sn must be below Fe but above Pb in the activity series.
