Question:

Chemical names of manmade fertilizers?

I'm working on a newspaper article about organic agriculture and I'm trying to find a list of chemical names (trinitrotriethylglycophospho-whatever) of commonly used manmade fertilizers to use in my lead paragraph after the opening sentence "Manure happens." :-) If there's a list of chemical names of manmade fertilizers you can point me to, I would be a happy camper.

  1. All chemicals in fertilizers are not made by man, man just mix them.

    Compost is made by nature, and by man too

    Try liquid  worm humus, if you can read spanish, see

    California worms are  incredible money makers, and do not pollute

  2. Urea, Ammonium sulphate, Ammonium chloride,Ammonium nitrate, Di Ammonium nitrate, Calcium nitrate, Single double or triple super phosphate, Muriate of potash (K2O), etc are all chemical fertilizers.

  3. I cannot answer your question, because we are not a farm that uses chemicals.  We cannot use the word "organic," because we refuse to pay the Government to be allowed to use a word in the dictionary.

    I can tell you where to find a valuable source for your research, however.

    Crack open your local phone book.  Look in the blue pages (government stuff).  Find the listing for Ag Extension office.  You can pay them a visit, and they will be able to help you answer many, many questions like that (if someone else does not answer the question for you on this forum).

  4. Anhydrous Ammonia = NH3 = a nitrogen fertilizer

    Urea = (NH2)2CO = a nitrogen fertilizer

    Ammonium Nitrate = NH4NO3 = a nitrogen fertilizer

    Potassium Chloride = KCl = a potassium fertilizer

    Phosphate = PO43− = a phosphorus fertilizer

    Those are the main ones
