Ever since i played that one sniper mission on Call of Duty 4 , i always wondered if that was what it actually looked like and if people life there now ? Also , will people ever beable to live there again ? Is it save to travel there ?

You will get some lies on this.

The fact is the region is still highly contaminated. They have not yet completely sealed in the reactor. In fact the old structure is falling apart. People live there, but they are workers to manage the site.

The region abounds with weirdly mutated animals.

The sheer amount of plutonium in the soil assure no one will farm there til the basic end of time (64,000 year half life on the most prevalent isotopes there)...

This remains a covered up story in the international press, and few russians really care to know the truth, so it is easy for the Putin regime to hide the facts.

It remains one of the nastiest examples of what nukes can do, and the power brokers that want to sell you old style nuke technology will not be honest about this ever.
