are you entitled to child tax credits when you're on income support? I've heard that you are but am not sure whether its true or not. Also, if you are and have never been paid it, do they pay arrears?? My friends son's 12 and she's never got it, yet she's been told she should have had it all these years. We're in the UK

  1. It depends what IS pay for you. For instance if you have a child under 1 and you get the baby element from IS you cannot claim CTC but I would imagine now the child is 12 she won't be getting that and should be able to claim CTC. The claim will only be backdated a maximum of 93 days it WILL NOT be backdated further than this. Not knowing you could get it is not considered a valid enough excuse to get further backdating.

  3. Yes anybody with a child as long as there earnings are under 50,000 get child tax credits but they can only back date it for 3 months before you claim, so if you claimed in july you'd get it back dated to aprilish. child tax credit is pretty new its not been around that long so your friend wouldnt have got it for the whole 12 years of her sons life, last 4 or 5 but they still will oonly back date for 3 months.

  4. well CTC havent been going for 12 years, so she wont get 12 years worth. in fact they will prob only pay a years backdated.

you should always claim for everything, whether you think youre entitled or not.
