ok ppl all 4 of my children are on a low carb-high protein diet(NO Processed foods) because they are add/adhd/odd. But I am really confused about this so I need to know if I am correct or not. Is the meat's you buy (not the frozen bag) processed or not? And Is cow's milk or powder milk ok or what kind is? Is egg's, cheese and kool-aid , ketup, french fries all ok or what. Can anyone please give me a list of NON Processed food? And what kind of fruites and vegatables are ok? Are can good's like corn and green beans also ok? Please help by giving me a food list of what you know and maybe some websites for extra help too.

  1. feed your kids lady! This is a ghetto diet. Not a healthy one..freaking meat and koolaid>???

  2. People are often told to shop around the outside walls of the supermarket for non-processed foods (in general); because it's in the middle aisles where stuff in boxes, envelopes, and cans are stocked.

Usually, "processed", means things have been added and/or the food has been cooked, or other things have done to it.

Processed is different from organic, so that's one thing to keep in mind.

Usually, when people are told to generally stay away from processed foods it means to stay away from frozen dinners, things that come in envelopes, NoodleRoni, instant potato, canned soups.

Fresh meat, poultry, and anything you buy in the produce department are not processed.  Eggs are not.  Egg products in cartons are.

What's acceptable depends on how strict the diet needs to be.  If there's a problem with something like gluten or wheat, you have to look for products that don't have those.  On the other hand, if you just generally have to stay away from processed, it's probably ok if there's a bag of frozen, uncooked, french fries that haven't had anything added to them (and that aren't already cooked).

Plain cheese would be considered not processed, although cheese spreads or cheese with extra stuff running through it may be.  American Cheese would be considered processed.

Fruits and juices that are just packaged without anything else in them would be ok.  You may want to ask about something like fruit cups with diced pear or peaches.

That's the thing.  You need to ask if the diet means no added anything other than the food, itself; or if it means "processed" as in packages of instant potato, frozen dinners.

Things like fruit cups may have a little something added to them.

Although milk can sometimes have something added, and although it has been homogenized, it's probably ok; although you should check.

In fact, sometimes dairy is one of the kinds of foods that people are not supposed to have.

KoolAid is pretty much flavoring and chemicals, so it would be considered processed.  The kind of stuff it has, though, may be different than the potential problem stuff that it's in something like a box of macaroni and cheese.

You'd have to look at the package of frozen vegetables.  Some don't have anything else in them.  Some have salt added.  They've been cooked, but there's the bags of, say, just snap peas; and then there are are bags that have sauces and other stuff.  That's something  you check.

Since you say the diet is low carb/high protein, I'm thinking the main issue may be more staying away from pastas, packages of rice, packages of noodles, and any meals prepared with them.  Breads are high in carbohydrates.  Whole grain breads are less processed than white breads.

Fruits and vegetables have some carbohydrates.  Fruits are high in sugars.  Vegetables are lower, but protein (meats, fish, and dairy) are lowest in carbohydrates.   The carbohydrates in fruits, though, are sugars.  They don't have starches.  That's something to ask whoever recommended the diet too.  The sugar in fruit is different from refined sugar.

You may want to find out, too, if something like tuna in cans is out; or if, because it's minimally processed it would be ok.

Powdered milk would be very processed.
