  1. how old? sometimes sticker/reward/token eceonmy activities work

  2. first of all don't sweat the small stuff.

only address the things that is absolutley not permitted.

there is so many things that you could nag at with an adhd

    child.

I had one (have one) he is 27 years old now.

I struggled greatly to try to get him through school.

    It did not happen.

he finally gave it all up in the 10th grade.

Today he is the best mechanic in the state of Florida.

    and is raising 3 children.

and doing a pretty good Job of it.

not much help with the mom EITHER!

I am so proud of him.

I tried very hard for education for him.

    but mainly,

I just loved him, loved him and showed him every day

I would never give up on him.

  3. Obviously it depends on the cooperation of the teacher. However I would look into some kind of self-management program. Typically this involves you and your child choosing 1-3 target behaviors that you want to increase or decrease. The child can mark whether the behaviors occur or not during a given time period, academic subject or part of the day. Ask the teacher to check in periodically with the child to verify accurate recording. The child gets bonus points to recording correctly regardless if it is a positive behavior or negative behavior. Set goals of the number of points, tallies etc. for each day, week, month and set up rewards. You can also set up points so that they can choose to turn them in for more immediate smaller rewards or save up for larger less frequent rewards.

I am not sure what the problem/ target behavior is, but you can also set up some kind of consistent warning/ consequence system if it is a disruptive behavior that needs to be managed. The teacher uses a consistent warning system that may result in loosing points or privileges. I usually won't add the negative consequences though until the positive system is in place and it is clear the child has bought into the system.

  4. ADHD is a huge challenge.  You are correct - there is tons of stuff available.

    How old is your son?

    Is he in school?

    Is he receiving any counseling?

Is he under medical supervision, ie. on meds?

    There are many questions.

Seek assistance available in your community.

P.S.  This is a question for the experts that know your son.

Was there a problem with counseling?
