I am wanting to join the army or the JROTC since i'm only 15. But I am a varsity basketball player. I think my coach would be mad if i told him that I'm choosing JROTC over basketball. How do i break the news to him that I want to stop playing basketball and join the JROTC? Cuz he's not the nicest guy about not playing sports. I don't know. I just really want to stop playing basketball and join JROTC and I don't know how to let basketball go I gues....HELP!!!

  1. dude why do u want to go to the army anyway. i see why u would want to quit but go to war? u  have a life ahead of u. who says ur gonna live to see the next year. i would just like have him over for dinner and maybe have ur parents do it.idk but save ur life dont got to war! wat r u fighting for? but good luck quiting basketball!

  2. Pick what you think is best for you

  3. Choose both basketball and JROTC, because you may earn a JROTC ribbon for the athletic award.

JROTC will understand that you are a varsity basketball player very important.

  4. Well if you really want to do JROTC instead of basketball then do it. But since it sounds like you are only in High School... I suggest giving doing both a try. You may end up not wanting to be in the military and wishing you had stuck with a sport you liked. And I knew many football, basketball, baseball, etc people who where in JROTC when I was in HS.

Or maybe do a community / rec league.

It's your life but I don't recommend cutting something out on a teenage whim.

  5. First off I would say choose what your passion is.  I'm in R.O.T.C. in college an what I hear is that JROTC just teaches you marching and maye some other stuff.  I hear JROTC dont really matter. If your planning to join the military and go the officer route go R.O.T.C. in college.  You also get paid!

O and JROTC kids are not the most popular kids in school

  6. It's your life, and you have to choose what feels right to you.  A simple, "I'm quitting basketball." will do the trick.  If you're not actually practicing as a team (since it's summer), then just don't show up for team practices and try-outs.  No explanation needed there.
