Christopher Samba regains Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 captaincy
Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba has regained captaincy after convincing caretaker manager Steve Kean that he does not intend to leave the club.
Samba’s recent comments are in stark contrast to his stance two weeks ago. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Congo-c2875 star had threatened to leave the club after Sam Allardyce’s sacking last month.
Christopher Samba had announced his intentions of leaving Blackburn to protest against the treatment of Allardyce by new club owners, Venky’s. The Indian poultry giants have recently bought the club for 43 million pounds. Sam Allardyce was dismissed from
his managerial post just twenty-six days into their reign.
Venky’s cited lack of ambition as the reason for relieving the popular Englishman from his position, installing Steve Kean as caretaker manager until the end of the season. Blackburn players have voiced their anger at the move and Samba was the latest to
criticise the new owners.
In the aftermath of Allardyce’s dismissal, Samba had said, “If this is the way the club's going to be run from now on, I don't want to be part of it and I want to leave.” Steve Kean had been forced to strip the defender of the club captaincy, saying that
until Samba decides to stay, he would have to give the armband to someone else.
However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christopher-Samba-c9212 has apparently reconsidered his decision of leaving. The defender has assured Kean of his commitment to the club, prompting the Blackburn manager to award him with the captaincy once again.
Speaking on Samba’s decision to stay at Ewood Park, Kean said, “The way he explained it to me was really good. He said, 'I've never asked to leave. All I said was that if a bigger club comes in I've aspirations to play in Europe and win things, then it's
something I would look at'. I stressed that we want to build a squad that gets us into the top half, then next summer we'll make additions to try and challenge the top six. As soon as he heard that he was much more positive.”
