Circumcision? Info/Advice... Help?!! ?

Hi, My son is almost 4 years old now and myself and my husband are considering circumcision, he is not my husbands child, but my son's father is also muslim, I am not considering this for any religious reasons, more for his health.

I am interested to know if there are any drawbacks or problems associated to having circumcision at this age... how much will it hurt him? how long will it hurt him for? Will there be blood? Im kind of scared for him cuz i dont want him to be in any pain as i dont like seeing him in pain because it upsets me.

I am looking for any advice or information about circumcision, i am worried that if i plan to get the circumcision and it causes him a lot of pain that i will regret having it done.

At four years of age, there is nothing to be gained here but a traumatic experience for your son.  I'd wait until he was old enough to discuss the procedure with him and let him decide.

Actually there are no real health issues to consider. For many years almost all baby boys were circumcised, but now it more of an option.

I am 60 years old and never had a problem. That is simply a myth. And a Jewish custom.

Why dont you consult your pediatrician or an urologist?

he is almost four now, and although im in favor of infant circumcision, at this point unless he is having some discomfor, i would wait until he is old enough to make that decision for himself.  At the age of four he would be very uncomfortable and trying to keep him calm will be difficult, since he wont really understand.

It'll hurt, a lot., and since he's no longer an infant he'll remember the pain. It'll take a few weeks for him to get over it, and many more for him to forget it. There will be blood and a decent amount of it too. It will achieve two things though, it will make cleaning easier, and he'll fit in. Although it has a lot of downsides, biggest of which is loss of pleasure for him and future partners. I'd suggest against myself...

Princess, I think that you should do your own research on this.  At 4 yrs of age, this is an unnecessary operation that you will be subjecting your son to.   The only health risk is if he is not hygienic.  If he cleans properly, than that isn't an issue.  I am jewish and if I had a male child I'm not sure I would keep this covenant (that is what this act is for  jews and probably for muslims).  As an American I prefer the look of a circumcised p***s but that is no reason to do it.  What we do know is that circumcised p***s' lose some feeling during s*x due to the constant irritation on the head.  The f******n provides protection.  I am sympathetic to you situation but I think you need to sit down with his father and discuss how you feel about this.   There is a lot of information on the web about this.  some of it is a bit over the top but a lot is moderate and clear.  Good luck.

There's no need to touch it, at this age.  Men have existed in good health for centuries without being circumcised.   A baby won't remember it (at least I don't remember mine).  But at age 4, he will remember the pain that you made him undergo.

I'll put a few points forward.

I think it's an unnecessary procedure full stop.As soon a boys need to they can wash beneath their f******n anyway.

I don't agree with any parent removing a part of their child without the child's consent anyway but this is just the wrong time completely.

He is old enough to feel the pain as stated above ,but also to question who caused the pain and it's not like a baby who would be wrapped up in a nappy afterwards anyway, he'll be pulling at the dressings as he will be in discomfort.

A couple I know had their baby circumcised at about 6 weeks and he ended up back in hospital for a good few days due to infection.

Why would you chance a hospital stay for an unnecessary procedure?

A Muslim friend I knew chose to have it done at about 13 or 14.

The tip of the p***s is incredibly sensitive much like the clitoris.

I cannot believe that the p***s does not become desensitised after circumcision.

If a guy who is not circumcised  catches the tip of an exposed p***s on his pants for example he will squirm and re-adjust himself.

Muslims just circumcise as part of their religion and try to encourage others to do it as well for "health reasons" but there are actually no real health reasons to get it done.

At age 4, that is a terrible time to do it, yes it will hurt a lot, he will remember the pain but not fully understand it, it would be very traumatic why would you put him through that?

And yes, it does cause a loss in sexual pleasure. So I hope your update means you've decided not to do it!

BTW my boyfriend is not circumcised and happy about it, and he's never had a f******n problem. That is the case of most guys worldwide.

circumcision was a commandment of God to Abraham.

it is today a covenant of the jews to become a Jew! chosen people of God.

it is also a medical procedure which gives a belief of protection of some things that uncircumcised people have a tendency to have. ( i forget at this time)

circumcision should be considered a "must" for babies! it is my opinion that it is more healthy.

but if one is circumcised as a baby and is not jewish, if they want to become jewish they must follow the ritual of being "pin-pricked" in a symbolic act of jewish circumcision.  

Paul and PETER argued this contention in the book of Acts and i think Paul won over the agreement of all believers. though it overturned the necessity of salvation to be circumcized it does not guarantee salvation to perform the ritual or medical procedure.

There is absolutely no health reason that I can find to do that.  I wouldn't have done it had I had a son.

These are questions you should be asking your doctor.  Ask a couple of them actually.

Have you even seen a baby being circumcised?! They can't use anesthetic or anything to stop the pain. It will just lie there having its skin chopped off crying and screaming. Search for a video on youtube and you'll see what I'm talking about. Yeah they don't remember it but personally i wouldn't want my child to go through all that.

Don't get him circumcised. What health reasons? Back then when the Quran was written they couldn't have been so clean as we are now could they? As you said... let him choose on his own!

Why would you want to mutilate your child?  There is absolutely no health or any other benefit to having your child circumcised.  The only circumstances where it may be beneficial are if you live in very basic circumstances and do not have access to clean water for bathing - but even then I doubt it.

Getting a circumcision for a four year old will greatly traumatize him.  He will go through a lot of pain for many months, and will not understand why this was done to him.  The only reason to circumcise someone other than right after birth is if they get an infection.  My advice is DO NOT DO IT.
