Manchester City’s Dubai based owners are willing to spend lavishly as the club prepares a sensational bid for Real Madrid’s star player, Christiano Ronaldo in the summer.
Madrid signed Ronaldo for a mammoth 80 million pound fee in 2009 and he remains to this date, the most expensive signing ever. However, the cash rich Manchester City are willing to spend equivalent to what the Spanish giants paid for the Portuguese player
in 2009. Besides that, City is prepared to set the striker’s wage in between 400,000 to 500,000 pounds a week.
The former FIFA Player of the Year came to Bernabeu from Manchester United for a six year term and was initially getting 250,000 pounds from the club. However, his pay is expected to balloon up to 400,000 pounds per week as he approaches the end of his term.
Earlier, the Blue side of Manchester attempted to land Brazilian midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-c30950 Kaka. But the move failed to go ahead despite a world record offer of 108 million Euros made by City.
Nonetheless, the club’s power brokers are confident of a different outcome this time around.
According to sources from both the clubs, representatives from either side have discussed the matter of the player’s transfer to Manchester.  Ronaldo’s agent is believed to be holding meetings with different officials on the matter.
A privy source told Goal.com “The signs now from the Ronaldo camp are surprisingly more positive. The contact has taken place in the last few weeks and there is serious chatter in the corridors at the Etihad, akin to when City tried to sign Kaka from AC
Milan a few years back."
City are expected to spend handsomely in the summer, with the club already linked to a number of possible signings at the end of the season. However, Ronaldo is likely to become the top priority for the Citizens, with the club’s Dubai based owner, Sheikh
Mansour believed to be a staunch supporter of the Portuguese player.
City have enjoyed a remarkable season and are currently placed second in the Premier League table. Whether the club goes on to win the league title or not can be the defining moment in Ronaldo’s move to City.
"City want a marquee signing this summer to confirm their emergence as serious players among football’s elite. Ideally, they would do so from a position of strength as Premier League champions but whatever happens in the title race they want to send out
a statement of intent.”
The prolific winger/striker is believed to have come in contact with the City’s intermediaries in the previous summer. At that time, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 turned down a possible move to the club.
The player has enjoyed a successful time in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 and has scored a staggering 131 goals in 132 appearances for Madrid.
