Civil Engineers are Environmentalists?

Question

Ok, I'm applying for a scholarship. And I have to explain my educational career goals. I wanna be a Civil Engineer. I know they build bridges and roads...but I've also heard people say they're environmentalists.

So, I was thinking. Would it be ok to put one of the reasons I want to be a civil engineer is because I care for the environment?

And could someone explain to me exactly what a civil engineer is, and what they have to do with the environment?
