Clapping pushups?

its also called plyometric pushups. is it effective for improving punching power? i heard that it doesnt build muscle much but helps a lot when it comes to speed and power. right? and whats the number of reps an average guy can do for clapping pushups? and for the pros?

  1. Yes it does help with speed. It will help you exploit your maximum speed potential, and to a lesser extent, your power. Clapping is especially good, as it requires coordination, reflexes, balance, leverage and the proper technique, all very important skills in boxing.

    Power is a tricky one, because, you must first learn how to effectively punch. I would say 80% of power comes from being able to properly use your legs and position your body correctly enough to get the most power you can out of your punch. Tommy Hearns was a very weak puncher until he changed his stance and punching style then he was a virtual powerhouse, it had nothing to do with his muscle or excersize.


  2. im a tough guy i do 15 clappers each night but i wouldnt reccomend it for any one who isnt used to that i only do 15 because i do other pec exercises at the local gym
