Question:

Cleaning Suede Half-Chaps?

My half chaps are so dirty but they're suede. I need to clean them but I don't know how? Should I just put them in the washing machine? Or should I do it some other way? Thanks.

  1. i have suede half chaps and all i do is wipe them with a damp sponge with water or if they get too dirty to wipe off then i throw them in the washer on hand wash or gentle cycle with regular laundry soap then let them air dry

  2. most chaps are machine washable didn't you check the packet they came in for instructions on how to care for them you could just try a rinse cycle hope this helps

  3. I have the same problem. i just put them in a sink of hot water with some washing mashine liquid in. it helps!

  4. My cat peed on my suede half-chaps, and I threw them in the washer and they were just fine. But if you are still worried, I know there is "suede soap" out there that you can hand wash them.

    (oh, and let them air-dry!)

  5. Unfortunately, you cannot wash sued. The only way to clean them is to brush them off with a bristle brush etc.

I too have sued half chaps, but what I found was, since they get very dirty, it was so much easier to buy another pair- that way I could use those ones for shows because they would always be clean (and black!) and I would use the first pair for schooling since they had already gotten dirty and you cannot get them completely clean again.

Sued half chaps are pretty cheap and can be bought for 60$, so if your looking to clean yours for a show then its probably more worth your while to go buy a new pair and keep them for showing.=]

    EDIT:

I have never tried to put my chaps in the washing machine- I have been told it ruins sued, so my solution was to by a second pair for showing, but you could give it a try and put them in warm water with soap- as the second poster said.

  6. I threw mine in the washer at 40 degrees (c) dried them on the washing line. They were stiff the first time I wore them but ok after that.

  7. i have the same problem. i usually use a toothbrush to get the gunk out and just brushing them off helps.

    here's a tip i thought i'd pass along...

zipping your half chaps when you aren't wearing them makes

them last longer. it also helps the zipper not stick.

  8. Yes you can wash suede. I toss mine in the washing machine on gentle in cold water with a tiny bit of regular detergent. Hang them up to dry and they will be fine. I wash mine 4 to 6 times a year and they are probably 15 years old.

Whoever says you can not wash your chaps/half chaps has never tried it. Go ahead. They WILL be fine!

  9. you can bring them to a dry cleaner and they can properly wash suede.

what brand chaps are they? i have treadstep suede chaps and you're not supposed to wash those.

    Edit:

if there is a tag on the inside of the chaps that has laundering symbols on it, you should be able to tell.
