Question:

Cleaning my foals hooves?

I just purchased a 5 mo. old colt and I need to clean his hooves but they are so compacted with hard mud, etc. that I can't get it out and I'm afraid I'm going to hurt him. Is there anything I can do to loosen it up?

  1. Have you considered consulting a professional trainer? Horses pick up on a lack of confidence, and i would hate to hear about you or you horse getting hurt.

  2. Soaking his feet to loosen the compacted stuff might help a bit.

  3. soak its hooves, use a good pick & brush or if you still cant do any good get a vet in or if your at stables just ask or the colt will have complications

  4. put warm water in a 7 to 17 inch bucket put Ebssen salt in it and soak it for 5 to ten minutes and then tryto pick the hove.
