Question:

Cleaning stuffed animals?

My kids have a lot of stuffed animals that were thrown in to the closet, the cat got in there and peed all over them and they really stink. Any idea of how to get the smell out of them? there are too many to put into the washer, some are so old that the washer would tear them to bits and pieces, so that option is out.

thanks

  1. i would wash what you can and toss the rest...

  2. Hmm... Soak them in water and detergent.  I got a bad stain out of my skirt with that.. find some strong cleaners!

    GOOD LUCK!

  3. From experience, a soak in Woolite soap in a sink will get the smell out, and then put them in pillowcases and dry them on low in the clothes dryer. My ancient stuffed dog still gets washed that way.

  4. Retailers of stuffed animals never personally recommend washing stuffed animals in the washer or dryer. What is highly recommended is to spray on a mild all-purpose cleanser or simply use soap and sponge it clean with a little water. Then leave your stuffed animal in the sun to dry. Good Luck!

  5. You could either sprinkle them well with bicarbonate of soda and leave for a while and brush it off. or--------------------------------------... a wet flannel or old tooth brush with washing powder and water and rub gently into a lather then dry with a fluffy towel

  6. Sorry, but it sounds like you're going to need to just throw them away.  You could put a few into the washer at a time...or hand wash them...and then dry them...in the dryer..or hang them up outside somehow.  If they mean a lot to you..and you just feel like you or your kids are going to have a hard time parting from them..take a picture of them!! Make an extra copy so that your kids can hold on to the picture...? I know it's rough..having things that mean so much destroyed...but it's life...and these things happen...you just have to accept it and carry on..at least you have the chance to take a picture...there are people out there in the world that have their homes destroyed by fires, tornadoes..and so forth...so don't feel too bad. Good Luck.
