Cleaning your glasses/spectacles?

I have been wearing glasses/spectacles for over a decade now, but I still have trouble trying to get them clean.

Every day (or multiple times a day) I put them under running warm/hot water, with a drop of liquid soap. I then use a lens cloth to wipe the lens and frame dry.

The biggest problem I am having is the liquid soap leaves big streaks that refract light like soap bubbles (its a kaleidoscope of colors).

I tried using the expensive solutions you buy at the optometrist - it worked for a while but I know there has to be a better, cheaper way.

Does anyone know a liquid I can clean my glasses with, that won't leave scratches or prism streaks?

Like all glass, use a solution made of water and vinegar.

Dawn or Joy dish detergent. Wash your lense cloth ever so often too.

Believe it or not, Wal-Mart makes a pretty good eye glass

cleaning solution that is safe enough for the refractive coated lenses (those that change color automatically when you go outside or come back inside). A couple of sprays to both sides of each lense, wiped off with a special cloth you can also buy at almost any optical store, cleans my glasses very nicely with no streaks.

The cloth came with my glasses but I think it might run around $5.00 USD at an optical store or Wal-Mart.  And once you've purchased a bottle of their eye cleaning solution, hang on to your bottle because if you take it back to Wal-Mart, they will refill your bottle for free. Otherwise, you will pay something around $2.50 for the small bottle and maybe $4.00 for the large bottle.

Windex, of course, is a definite no-no, and the soap and water method has never worked well for me either.
