Question:

Clomid and booster shot?

I have been on Clomid 50 mg for the last 3 months and this is my first month on 100 mg. I have heard people say that there is a Hcg booster shot that is sometimes given in correlation with the Clomid. What is it for? Should I ask my doctor about it and why we haven't tried that, or is it only used with some patients?

  1. Were you ovulating with 50 mg?  I just got bumped from 100 to 150mg and my doc hasn't mentioned a trigger shot either.  If you are seeing a gyn I think they keep it to the basics.  I think if you are ovulating on the clomid and having s*x every other day you won't miss your window to get pregnant.  I think I am going to stick with the clomid for the next 2 cycles unless I get pregnant and then mention the trigger shot.  I would ask your doc if you think it would help though, that's what they are there for...just  rem. if they thought it would benefit you the doc probably would have mentioned it.  Just give it a little time, this might me our lucky month!!  Good luck:)

  2. The booster shout is used after you have finished taking the chloimdto time your ovulation. For example. U have been instructed to take the clomid for 7 days. At the end of that seven days, you wouyld stop the clomid and be given a booster shot. Then you would be advised when to have s*x after the booster shot is given. The booster shot makes sure that the folicles that you have produced from the clomid will release and you will ovulate.

Booster shot can be more commonally used in other cycles such as the injection cycles..

Ask your doctor.. Ive been through all this, and then went to IVF, and now am pregnant with my first child.

    Good luck :0)!!

  3. Some patients do an hcg trigger shot - it is used to induce ovulation.  This is common for women who are doing an IUI in conjunction with Clomid or women who are trying a well-timed cycle.  The trigger shot will help the follicles to finish maturing and then release the egg.

Women who have mature follicles on Clomid and ovulate on their own do not necessarily need the trigger shot . . .but it never hurts to discuss your situation in detail with your doctor!

When I was doing fertility treatments, I used Ovidrel - which is a commonly prescribed hcg injection.  Here is some info on it:
