Question:

Coal shed and outside toilet?

Hi All

I have a coal shed, outside toilet and outhouse attached to my kitchen.

I want to convert into a small utility room and downstairs shower room /bath room.

Is this something anyone else has done? Do you require planning permission?

No construction work needed - except bricking up the already outisde doors to the out-houses.

Many thanks in advance !

  1. Don't think you will need planning permission, but will probably need building regs. You probably have a single skin wall which should be cavity etc. Unless you do it yourself and keep quiet about it.

  2. If you own the house I doubt you will need any permission.... But you could always contact your local authority just to make sure..... We have something like that its a good idea as it allows you to utilise your space to its maximum value........ Just make sure you know what you are doing before you start so you dont end up thinking, I have no idea what I am doing I wish I had never started....... Good luck :-)

  3. Very unlikely planning permission is needed. You might need building regs for the bricking up.

A good builder will be able to advise you on both.

  4. I had the same on my house, you will need building reg to come & check the work had been done probaly.
