Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I used cocaine for about 3 years. the last year of which i was a very heavy user 2 grams a day until one day something happened i felt dizzy and sick. I was taken to hospital and given GDN or something like that to widen my arteries. I didn't learn my lesson and as soon as i got back i was strait back on it. this happened 2 more times. At that point i stopped. At the time i also smoked and i started to get this feeling when i used to light up. which scared the h**l out of me because I thought i done irreparable damage to my body. Anyway its 15 months down the road and i don't drink, smoke or take anything i shouldn't. i exercise and am trying to live life. The problem is i still get chest pains everyday. I have had ECGS and they have been fine. im concerned that ive damaged my arteries. Does cocaine abuse damage or clog up the arteries permanently? is there anything more that i can do to stop getting these pains?

  1. My daughter is currently in rehab for using cocaine for 5 yrs.  She too had chest pain.  Her EKG showed irregular heart beat from this drug.  They told her she permanently damaged her heart but it is not life threatening.  I glad you stopped.  It does not clog the arteries, it causes an irregular heart beat.  She has mitral valve prolapse.  This is common .  She doesn't take any heart meds but will always have this problem.  See a doctor.  I must tell you, once she stopped for some time, she no longer has the chest pains.  I wish you the best.  Congratulations on your efforts for quitting

  2. As a recovering drug addict I can tell you that I've been clean almost 6 yrs and don't smoke and still have chest pains.  Sometimes I think I'm having a heart attack but my Dr. says I'm healthy and it's probably stress.  You have to remember that your body has been through a lot and it will take longer to recover than it took to destroy it!  It sounds like you're on the right path.  Don't sweat the small stuff, watch your diet and get excercise and I'm sure you can still lead a very full and healthy life!

  3. Cocaine furs-up the arteries.  Any doctor can tell you that.

  4. Extended use of Cocaine will only lead to more and more serious health problems, and eventually DEATH.  I am not trying to preach to you, but there is no good ending to it.  I am glad you have finally stopped and hopefully for good.  You are lucky to have been given these wake-up calls and have listened to them.  Not everyone is so lucky.  Two of my family members have passed away already from Cocaine-induced heart attacks/strokes.  Please listen to your body :)
