Cocker spaniel tips?

I'm getting a cocker spaniel puppy on friday and wondered if anyone had any tips to make it less stressful for the puppy on his first few days here.

Also, just any tips on owning dogs overall? I've never owned a dog before. I've done alot of research.

  1. go to the pet store and buy a book on the breed and it will tell you all u need to know good luck

  2. Hi, I have a Springer Spaniel, and all I can really suggest is, try not to leave him for long, if he's had his injections maybe take him for a little walk, and just be as patient as possible for as long as possible!

My spaniel was a nervous wreck when I first got him, it's only now, just literally in the past few days that he'll bark if someone knocks at the door.  Before he would hide in the kitchen!

One thing I will suggest, start as you mean to go on!  If you don't want him on the furniture, don't let him at first then tell him no later, dogs don't understand "sometimes".

Good luck with your new puppy!!  I'm sure once he's settled you'll both have lots of fun x

  3. Me too! Congrats! I'm getting mine next Friday. Just  keep thngs as low key as you can. Introduce her/him to the new environment. Where to sleep, where to go potty......buying a book will be helpful, as previously suggested. Love him/her and if it's still a pup, remember that it's still a baby. Be patient and constructive in your corrections.

I'm just curious .....American or English? Boy or girl? Name picked out? I'm getting a female.  Her name will be Brie, unless something else suits her when she comes home. I'm so excited. I've taken leave of absence to spend her first few months at home with her. Best of luck!
