Question:

Coffee table base ideas?

I have a round glass table top that I have used with pedestals for a coffee. I would like to change the base to something else that is tan of gold or a light color. Does anyone have any different ideas for a base that I can use and where I could get it from?

  1. try a garden urn or a short wide stump.  urns come in many colors and prices...check out your local garden center or even pier one imports or cost plus world market.  as for the stump...you will have to do some searching for this: try a local tree trimmer...they might have one that they or you can cut down to size.  the "faux bois" (French for fake wood) look is really big this year, especially in a high gloss white.  why not paint the stump with primer and several coats of high gloss latex enamel to recreate that look for a lot less..

  2. It mostly depends on your decor also.

Cubes turned upside down are cool for modern look.

Flower pot of any kind are easy.

Short shutters attached together are cute.

Even an old small table is an idea either refinished or not.

Explore things in your home or go to the Goodwill or Salvation Army,or

    Yard sales.

  3. this is going to sound tacky, but since i have actually done it and loved the results i'll share from experience.

    What you'll need:

masking tape in 3 different widths

    Brown or tan  shoe polish

    clear coat spray paint

    gold leaf (optional)

like i said it sounds a mess but test it on something ad if you do it right you'll love the results

Tear the masking tape into different sized peices, its your choice whether to place it random or in a pattern, but the ripped edge is the focul point so be creative with it.  do not put it on neatly- the messier, wrinkled, the better. Once you've placed the masking tape on the stand rub the shoe polish over the tape with a sponge rubbing the ripped edges bringing out the texture, if you want to go over certain areas with gold leaf you can for a flashier look.

the outcome is a faux leather looking texture, or weaving the tape will make a beautiful pattern as well.
