-Does this mean ill give someone a cold sore everytime i kiss, even if its not there?

  1. You don't need to be scared of a cold sore.  With no treatment at all it will go away in a week to 10 days.  No, it does not mean the you will give someone a cold sore every time you kiss, though it is possible to pass on the cold sore virus, even when you do not have a cold sore.  There is no way to tell how often you will get them.  You are more likely to get a cold sore when you are very stressed, when your immune system is compromised such as when you have a cold, or if you spend too long in the sun.  Some people have flare ups often, and some people rarely get them.  Cold sores are very common.  To get rid of them the fastest way possible you need to see your doctor and talk about a prescription for Valtrex.

Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores.  We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene.   Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

There is no over-the-counter medication or home remedy that cures cold sores.  Only time will take care of that.  But there is a good prescription medication for cold sores.  It will make them go away much faster, and as a result of taking this medication you will have far fewer outbreaks of cold sores.

The absolute best treatment for cold sores is a prescription medication in pill form called Valtrex.  It was intended for genital herpes, but cold sores are caused by the same family of viruses, and Valtrex stops colds sores in their tracks.  None of the other treatments come close to the effectiveness of Valtrex, not the ointment Zovirax, and certainly not Abreva or anything else.  Ask your doctor about it to see if you would be a good candidate for this medication.  My doctor prescribed it for me for cold sores about five years ago and after taking it only a couple of times I hardly ever get a cold sore any more, and before Valtrex I was having several attacks a year.  On the rare occasions that I do get one now, it is gone almost immediately when I take the medication - in about a day.    In the meantime, here are a couple of informative links.

  2. Try taking vitamin C.

  3. First off, let me say it really sucks Ive suffered from them my whole life.  Every night before picture day Id wake up with a massive one on my lip :o(  Now there is a product called ABREVA its like 15 bucks for a tiny tube but DAAAAANG does that stuff work - its a great investment.  Though my doctor growing up told me there was nothing I could do about it I found that certain things worked for me such as...

When you feel the tingle before the sore breaks thru ice it - i mean put a big cube of ice on it until it hurts and keep doing it many times the sore never comes to surface,

Use Abreva even if you dont have one - it prevents them.

I also noticed Id get them just before my menstrual so keep record of when you get them (it could be a one time thing) just to see of there is a pattern in your outbreaks.  Hope it helps!

OH AND ABREVA WILL CLEAR IT UP IN 2-5 DAYS DEPENDING ON HOW BAD IT IS.
