Im considering moving to Japan, but I need a place with colder summers than most of Japan. Aside from Hokkaido (which is too remote), which is the coldest place in Japan in summer?

  1. Go climbing Mt. Fuji or high mountain. Elavation is always making you cooler than flat.

  2. Sapporo is hardly "remote"-it's a big city and it's nowhere near as hot as Tokyo in the summer. Aomori city would not be hot and it's on Honshu.  If you go up to Gassan they would still be skiing in July-but again that is remote. Sendai is always a few degrees cooler than Tokyo in the summer. The hottest place in Japan is actually in Yamagata, so north isn't necessarily cooler. Yamanashi is also stinking hot in the summer. Okinawa is actually quite pleasant in the summer due to the seabreezes.

  3. buy an air conditioner & stay indoors during the day all summer. lol
