Question:

College acceptance ?

I'm really interested in becoming a doctor, but my high school GPA was around 2.5. I know, that's pathetic.

I did score a 32 on the ACTs, though. Should I even bother trying to be a doctor? I know I'm intelligent enough, but I'm wondering if a medical school would even consider accepting me with such a low GPA. And I haven't taken any AP science classes. I'm more than willing to put in the work if I were to be accepted, but do you think a school would contemplate my admittance with such low scores?

  1. Medical schools do not care about your high school GPA.  You need a 4-year college degree to apply to medical school, and those are the only grades they care about.  So as long as you can maintain at least a 3.5 GPA in college, then it's worth a shot.  Now you just need to get into a college and do the pre-med courses.  But if you do badly in college, no medical school will consider you with that low of a GPA - start working hard.

  2. Medical school is far away for you; first you have to start at either a community college (which is a good starting point) then transfer to a university. Only your university grades will be looked at, and some required coursework.
