College and family crisis?

I got accepted to a University that i have my heart set on. I got a full scholarship but my parents and the rest of my family don't want me to go because they don't have enough money to send me off to Northern Arizona University NAU. I live in Cali. They won't be able to fund money to me if I ever run out, despite the fact that I will have an on campus job. So I can't go to the university. I have to go to a local college, even though thats not what I want to do. My parents will be heartbroken if I go out of state. I'm not sure if going to el camino will make things better or worse. I don't want to put stress on them. I got a full scholarship at NAU though, thats the thing. They understand that, but they cannot simply afford to let me go right now. They think I'm going to resent them and hate community college. I don't want to turn out that way. This is just a battle that I can't win because of finances. I can't believe I have to give up my dream :(

  1. Does the full scholarship include room & board?  If so, what are your additional expenses going to be, besides books?  (and you'll need books at either school...)

How much additional money are you talking about?  Have you figured out what it's going to be, or are your parents just flipping out about money, and not looking at the actual dollars and cents?

Have you looked into student loans?

Don't give up on your dream just yet.  Get the facts, and look for solutions.

You are an adult now, and able to make your own choices.  It sounds like your parents are giving you a lot of guilt.  If you find out exactly what you need to budget for, you can calculate what you're going to make (estimate) at your job, and include the cash from student loans.  If the dollars add up, you can go.
