My husband and I are disagreeing which temperature is more comfortable at night. We argue over what temp to set the thermostat at. In your opinion, what is the best temp for sleeping at night?

  1. I personally like it cold. In winter the heat in my room doesn't work too good so it is really cold in my room in the winter. I just get up under three blankets and I'm fine. :)

  2. Our thermostat is usually set at about 20 degrees.  With the weather being so variable at the moment some nights may feel colder than others.

I find that sleeping in a room that is too warm, I end up tossing and turning in the night and throwing the quilt off and on.  Also - it makes me feel quite congested in the morning.

Although I HATE going to bed to cold bedsheets, i have a more sound sleep during the night when its on the colder side.

Women tend to want the room warmer than men.

Perhaps a compromise would be to get a lighter quilt and keep the thermostat as it is.

Also - bear in mind the rise in electricity and gas prices!

And if hes still not happy - put him on the couch!

  3. In my opinion you shouldn't use a thermostat ... turn it off as often as you can when you can wear another layer of clothes. In the bedroom however it would be more appropriate sleeping with thin sheets over the bed, and one thick duvet. Personally I like sleeping and waking up in the cold (a warm bath and a cup of tea (I'm British) brings me round gently).

Think about it one or two blankets can cut your electric/gas bill a bit, if you didn't use it at all and just keep one room warm whilst you're in it you're not contributing as much to energy wastage as the room(s) you barely are in i.e. the kitchen, bathroom and unused bedrooms you're not wasting on.

If it comes to it get an electrical blanket and single beds put together, one of you can sleep on top of a double duvet and the other snuggle up under it with an electrical blanket warming it up before you get in bed.

WARNING: (a) ensure the blanket conforms to your country's safety standards, the same applies with all your bedding and mattress etc. (b) NEVER no matter how cold you are use it whilst in the bed, they can give burns and have been known to fault and cause fire.

If the electrical blanket isn;t your thing alternatively drink warm coco before going to bed, with the thermostat off - if you need to have it on put it on (esp. in winter) half an hour before your alarm goes off and anytime between 5pm and 8pm for a few hours.
