I am going to do my road test tomorrow morning in North Carolina. I was wondering if any of you with more cdl experience had any advice . I am so nervous. I almost feel like when I was 16 going for my class c license. Thank you in advance!

  1. North Carolina - you wouldn't be attending Schneider Training Academy, would you?  (I ask that because I went through driver training at the Charlotte O.C.)  I found the road test to be the easiest part of the testing phase - it certainly was a lot easier than the driving I did during training.  Just pay attention to things like road signs, because your instructor will ask you "What was the clearance on that sign?" and similar questions.  Other than that, just concentrate on what you learned during training, keep your mind on procedures (trailer tandems no further than four feet from the curb when making right turns, etc), keep your cool, and you will be fine.

  2. While testing the driving skills of my new drivers, I had a variety of tricks.

I would have a cup of coffee in my hand and tell the prospective driver, "If you make me spill my coffee, you ain't going to make it."

I would hold my hat, arm, papers or something in such a way as to block the view of the right side mirror. I never passed anyone that didn't complain.

Obviously, you have been given some driving instructions, so...

Remember while you are behind the wheel, you are the boss. You will have to do the things as instructed, but make sure you do them safely. Relax, drive like you own the truck, Watch everything around you, especially when turning. If you are driving a stick shift, make sure you know the transmission and the clutch, each tranny is different and each clutch responds differently to foot pressure.
