What does it mean when a community college class (sociology 1) is taught by staff. When I enrolled the class had a instructor's name, but now it says staff.

  1. "Staff" means someone on a yearly or semester-to-semester contract, rather than a permanent faculty member. They can't print the name because usually the courses aren't assigned until fairly close to the start of the term. In other words, they might not know the name yet.

Don't worry: this person has a degree in the field is still qualified to teach the class, but they're not permanently employed by the CC. They might even be on the part-time staff at a couple of different colleges in the area.

  2. In my experience, it just means they're trying to find someone new to teach it. Not to stress you out, but most of the classes I registered for that said staff ended up getting cancelled :(
