Mycoplasma Pseumoniae is fascinating in that it is the only bacteria cell yet discovered that does not have a cell wall.  It causes "walking pneumonia".  They used to think it must be a virus causing it, cause they couldn't see it, but were surprised when it responded to antibiotics. I know this doesn't answer your whole question, but MP is my FAVORITE bacteria.  It's such a non-conformist.
