i have a job as a cashier. been there prolly about a month. it's boring and long hours, but easy enough. the pay isn't very good, but whatever. i just started college yesterday and realize for my classes i will have a lot of out of class obligations such as for theatre appreciation which is a gen ed i hafta paint sets and help with productions and well as go watch them. i have 15 credits and 6 classes. i am getting a work study job on campus to help pay for tuition. BUT i also need another job to pay for gas and necessities. however i would rather get a job on campus since i'll be there so much and the hours would be more accomidating to my schedule. so how do i let the cashier job know i need to pursue other opportunities. and i sorta wanna keep them on the backburner in case i need them for a summer job. so can i take a leave of absense? or what can i do. what should i say? HELP! school is most important but i need gas money to get there!

  1. you can tell them ... that!! Tell them... that you don't have the time.. becuase of college... they should understand that... and let them know that you would love to come back for the summer as soon as school doesn't have so many obligations!!

    Good luck

  2. Just have an honest talk with your Boss, explain your situation and ask him what he would do.  Believe me, if you will be honest with them and let them in on your situation, it will work better for both sides.  Never burn any bridges!

  3. Explain it the same way you wrote it down. That was great. I admire someone with your drive and appreciation for higher learning. Go as far as you can go while you're young.
