Was thinking of replacing my deck boards with composite (plastic) decking, but its very expensive. Any one have experience with this material? Is it durable and lasting and does it need any maintenance?

  1. I worked for a high end deck company for a few years.  We used a product called Timbertech,  it is the only composite decking not made from recycled wood and plastic.  Therefore, it does not fade or expand like other competitors.  The worst decking I have ever used was Trex.

  2. Yes I do have experience with this and it is worth it.no maintenance other than washing it off.Lasts forever.Does not fade.does not dry rott.Be sure to pre drill  everything though. Good luck.

  3. I am not sold on any of this yet. We have installed Trex, and I was not impressed in the least bit.

It scuffs up really bad during loading, unloading, installation, etc.

The edges cannot be routed over at all without a much lighter color being exposed.

I don't like to have to babysit materials when installing them.

If you are particular about your work and the materials- you won't like the extra care you must devote to installing some of the composite decking. It's all relatively new so I am waiting a few more years to see how much consolidation is made - there are way to many brands right now. Watch lowe's- They have a habit of dropping a product and switching to another - with not much notice.

  4. I understand your questioning the additional expense but its worth every penny if you get the right product.  Professionally and personally I only use and install "Eon" Brand Decking and when you see the product when compared to the others you'll see why.  Eon looks like a professionally finished wood decking, almost furniture quality, and will last you a lifetime with the merely cleaning with a water hose. It's easy to install and there are no fasteners exposed.

Eon is available through Lowe's and most stores have samples near the contractors desk that will allow to see and feel the product and its colors.  You can also go to the website, http://www.eon.com to get a look.
