  1. Depends on your OS.  It also depends on the make of your laptop.  In XP, you go to your display properties, to the screensaver tab, and then to the power options (Or go to your control panel, and to Power).  From there, the Advanced tab will give you a pulldown menu for what happens when you close the lid.

Now, with most Toshibas, you must make this change from their proprietary power control application.

Most people find this useful when deciding whether or not to have their laptop hibernate or standby when they close the lid.  Occasionally, I prefer to have my laptop playing music, so I will change the behavior so my screen is turned off (closed) but the laptop stays on and playing.

If you are using Vista, the steps to getting to the power controls are different (double click on the battery near the tray and go from there) but the outcome is the same.

  2. Sure, go to control panel and go to performance/power options, then go to the advanced tab, then when it says when I close the lid elect the "do nothing thing" Good Luck

  3. I don't think there is a away, when you close the lid the computer thinks you will be away for a while so it goes into standby to save energy and not overheat

  4. Power Options

If you are using Windows, go to Start - Control Panel

    WinXP: Power Options

WinVista: Not sure, don't have that OS at work

In there you can select what happens under certain circumstances, review the "advanced" tab (WinXP).

  5. I had this problem on mine for a while and the solution was very non-obvious. I can only instruct you on my experience which wasa with a laptop that used dell drivers but I imagine that most notebooks released these days will be fairly similar.

I clicked on the little battery meter icon and in Vista this produced an expanded view of how much powerr was left and some other options one of was 'more power options'. Click on that and you'll be taken to the poweer options sub-menu of the control panel. Alternatively you could get there by going to control panel, harware and sound and then power options. Within this windows will be your options for power management of battery life and in the window's left side panel is an option that says choose what closing the lid does. Click on that and all the options you need to make that choice will be there for you.

If the software is too different to mine for those instructions to make sense you'll find that someone will inevitably have posted instructions on how to do it on yours if you just type the make and model number of your laptop into google and ask how to change what happens when the lid closes.

  6. go to power settings and change it from there

  7. you will need to go into the power options under control panel, depending if in classic view or category view. under category view click performance and maintenance ->>> Power options ---> click advanced tab then under the power buttons select Do nothing under "When I clode the lid of my portable computer."
